Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. As we approach the end of the academic year, we face a pivotal moment for our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The current board members will be stepping down, and we are seeking dedicated volunteers to fill seven essential positions for the upcoming term. Without your involvement, we risk dissolving the PTO, which would significantly impact our school's community and resources.

The Importance of the PTO

The PTO plays a vital role in enriching our children's educational experience. Beyond organizing fundraisers, the PTO fosters a strong school community by facilitating events, supporting teachers, and enhancing communication between parents and staff. These efforts transform our school from merely a place of learning into a vibrant community where students feel supported and connected.

Open Board Positions

We are accepting nominations for the following positions:

  1. President: Oversees PTO operations and liaises with school administration.

  2. Vice President: Assists the President and coordinates specific initiatives.

  3. Treasurer: Manages the PTO's finances, including budgeting and reporting.

  4. Secretary: Records meeting minutes and handles correspondence.

  5. Fundraising Chair: Plans and executes fundraising activities.

  6. Volunteer Coordinator: Recruits and organizes volunteers for events and programs.

  7. Parliamentarian: Ensures all activities are in alignment with PTO Bylaws

Consequences of PTO Dissolution

Without a functioning PTO, many programs and events that our children cherish may be discontinued. The absence of a PTO could lead to reduced funding for classroom supplies, extracurricular activities, and community-building events, thereby diminishing the quality of our students' educational experience.

How to Nominate

We encourage all parents and guardians to consider nominating themselves or others for these positions. No prior experience is necessary—just a commitment to our school's success. Serving on the PTO is a rewarding way to contribute to our community and directly impact our children's education.

To submit a nomination, please email the PTO (pto@abqse.org) by April 10. Please include the position you are desiring and a little about yourself. Elections will be held during our general meeting on April 16, and all nominees will have the opportunity to introduce themselves before voting occurs.

Support and Resources

For those interested in learning more about the responsibilities associated with each role, I'm happy to have a conversation about what the last two years have been and how I've tried to prepare you for success. Additionally, outgoing board members are willing to provide support during the transition to ensure continuity and success.

Conclusion

Our school's strength lies in the active participation of its community members. Your involvement in the PTO ensures that we continue to provide a nurturing and enriching environment for our children. We urge you to step forward and help sustain the programs and support systems that benefit all our students.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter and for your continued support.

Warm regards,

PTO President

P.S. The PTO's Contributions to Our School Community

Our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) has been instrumental in enriching our school's environment through a variety of initiatives:

  • Scholastic Book Fair: This annual event not only fosters a love for reading among students but also raises funds that have enabled us to allocate $400 to each elementary teacher for classroom books and supplies.

  • Teacher Appreciation Breakfasts: At the end of each semester, the PTO organizes breakfasts to honor our dedicated teachers, enhancing morale and expressing gratitude for their hard work.

  • Fully Funded Field Day: The PTO sponsors our annual Field Day, covering all expenses to ensure a day of fun and physical activity for all students.

  • Support for Underprivileged Students: Through donations, the PTO provides books and uniforms to students in need, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational experience.

  • Movie Nights and Craft Fairs: These events, organized by the PTO, foster community engagement and provide enjoyable experiences for students and their families.

  • Silent Auctions: By hosting silent auctions, the PTO raises significant funds that are reinvested into school programs, further enhancing the educational environment.

These initiatives exemplify the PTO's commitment to supporting our teachers, students, and the broader school community. Each PTO operates autonomously, allowing them the flexibility to select events and initiatives that best align with their school's unique culture and needs that year.
