Please join us in congratulating the twenty ASE 10th graders who qualified for and participated in the state National History Day competition last Saturday April 13th!  We are beyond excited to announce that some of our students won awards and qualified for Nationals, and will be competing this June in Washington D.C.!!

Please congratulate the following students on their tremendous achievement in qualifying for Nationals!

·       Sama Lilo - 2nd place in Individual Documentary, for her project on Islamic Slavery entitled "The Untold Story: The Loss of Islam in Colonial and Antebellum America as a Turning Point in African-American Culture."  Sama's Process Paper and Annotated Bibliography can be read here.

·       Thayden Root and Sophia Espinosa2nd place in Group Documentary for their project on the development of the first jet engine entitled "The Jet Engine Revolution: Propelling U.S. Air Superiority".   Thayden & Sophia's Process Paper and Annotated Bibliography can be read here.

Please also congratulate the following students who placed 3rd in their category, and qualified as alternates to the National competition:

·       Parisa Compton and Devin Luna - 3rd place in Group Website for their project on Indian Boarding Schools entitled "Identity Interrupted: The Intergenerational Impact of American Indian Boarding Schools on Indigenous Cultures".  Parisa and Devin's Process Paper and Annotated Bibliography can be found in the "Research" section of their website.

·       William Griffin - 3rd place in Individual Website for his project on the Black Panther Party entitled "By Any Means Necessary". William's Process paper and Annotated Bibliography can be found in the "Research" section of his website!

·       Charley Torres - 3rd place for her Senior Research Paper entitled "Examining the Evolution of the Public Health System in Response to the 1900-1908 San Francisco Plague Epidemic - A Turning Point in History".  You can read Charley's process paper, research paper, and bibliography here!

Finally, please congratulate Julia Parker, Nicolette Waghmere, and Jasmine Lucero for winning the "Accessibility and Disability" special award for their group website "Beacon of Hope: The Resounding Impact of the Amber Alert System", and Charley Torres for winning the special award in Environmental History for her research paper on the Bubonic Plague.

Mr. Boles and Ms. Beyer would like to thank all of their 10th graders this year for their hard work and dedication to the research process.  Their effort resulted in 26 students qualifying for the regional National History Day tournament, 20 students qualifying for state, and 7 students qualifying as participants or alternates for nationals. Congratulations on an incredible first year achievement!
